Experimental plane crashes near Hurricane airport; pilot in critical condition

HURRICANE, Utah – 62-year old Carlos Duenas, pilot of an experimental aircraft is reported in critical condition at Dixie Regional Medical Center after his plane crashed into a field near the Hurricane airport late Saturday..

Officers and medical personnel were dispatched to a report of plane crash at approximately 10:49 a.m. Saturday at 2050 South 800 West just north of the Hurricane airport.

Witnesses reported seeing the plane, an experimental aircraft, take off from the Hurricane airport and circle twice before it crashed.

The plane appears to have experienced mechanical problems which caused the plane to stall.as the pilot was attempting to land from the north. The aircraft crashed in a field went through a fence skidding about 150 feet before stopping.

The plane has extensive damage and appears to be a total loss.

An investigation into the cause of the crash is being conducted by the NTSB and the FAA.
