The Sliver Leys Scout Group with the members of Green Watch at Stansted Airport
A SCOUT troop from Bishop’s Stortford had a memorable day out at Stansted Airport recently to see the Fire and Rescue Service’s new state-of-the-art vehicles.
The Silver Leys Scout Group met Green Watch and were taken for a tour around the station’s facilities before being shown the new fleet of Rosenbauer Panther 6×6 airport fire fighting vehicles.
The watch then put on a special demonstration to highlight the capabilities and differences the specialist vehicles have compared to what is normally seen on local roads.
Daren Barthram, Stansted Airport’s fire manager, said: “We were delighted to welcome the Silver Leys Scout Group to Stansted and show them the bits of the airport that people don’t normally get to see. Visits by community groups like this give us an opportunity to show youngsters the full range of specialist equipment, vehicles and expertise we have here to protect the millions of passengers that pass through the airport every year and the thousands of staff who work on site.”
Silver Leys Scout Group leader, Steve Edwards, said: “On behalf of my Scout troop I’d like to say very big thank you to the Stansted Airport Fire and Rescue Service. Green Watch were brilliant and they had the patience to answer all the questions posed by the youngsters.
“There was such a buzz on the coach home – it was the highlight of the year for the troop and the leaders!”
