Montrose City Councilor Kathy Ellis won’t face charges for having mistakenly brought her gun through a security checkpoint at Montrose Regional Airport last month.
Ellis had her small semi-auto in her handbag, and said she hardly ever carries the purse with her on flights. An October trip with her husband, Montrose County Commissioner Gary Ellis, proved the exception; Ellis said she forgot that the gun was in the purse and law enforcement reports indicated she was surprised when security workers found the firearm.
The sheriff’s office forwarded the case on to District Attorney Dan Hotsenpiller, who asked the DA’s Office in Mesa County to take over as a special prosecutor.*****************************************
