Airport authority to organise first awards event for retailers, airlines
MUSCAT Oman airport authorities have, as part of their acknowledging services and enhancing them, gone in for the first-ever annual awards to performers.
Oman Airports Management Company (OAMC) responsible for management and operation of all the leading airports in the Sultanate is to host its airlines and airports retail awards on October 21, according to company acting CEO Vic Allen.
The OAMC awards would be an important calendar event and the awards would be in 10 categories – best low cost, best inflight service, fastest growing service, best airline marketing, best cargo airline, best Muscat Airport service, Best Salalah Airport service, debut airline recognition, best retailers in restaurant, coffee shop and shopping.
“There is a small army working behind to deliver services to the millions of passengers who come in and go through the airport. We need to celebrate their services. Airports are now turning into shopping malls.
The award will showcase the hard work put in by all the stakeholders. This will also enhance the quality of services. The awards will help to improve the services of the retailers,” he said.
Unveiling the mementoes which had the images of the Muscat and Salalah airports on either side, airport general manager Aiman Al Hosni said that the nominees would include regional and international players.
The awards would help showcase Oman and its burgeoning aviation industry. It would motivate the various individuals and organisations engaged in the Omani aviation sector to boost their ambitions and achieve regional as well as international recognition.
He said that the award nominees were decided through a month long survey and the sample size was quite large with good feedback.Vic said that since his team had experience in conducting global passenger surveys, the process was undertaken in the most scientific manner.
“Given the market challenges that our sector is facing on a global level at the moment, this is a perfect opportunity to remember those companies and individuals that continue to achieve excellence on a daily basis,” he said, adding that among the categories envisaged initially, none was dropped.
A team headed by Vic with the general managers of operation and marketing vetted the survey matter.
