Colorado Aviation Division’s Senior Planner Accepts FAA Job scott_brownlee.jpg

The Colorado Aeronautics Division and its staff wished Scott Brownlee a warm farewell following his acceptance of a position with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). Brownlee began working for the Colorado Division of Aeronautics as an Aviation Planner in 1990. “Scott was an asset to the Colorado Division of Aviation and will be greatly missed,” said David C. Gordon, Director, Colorado Department of Transportation, Division of Aeronautics.

National and state aviation organizations applauded Arizona Governor Jan Brewer for declaring January 15th “Aviation Day.” The proclamation highlights the vital role that all aviation, including general aviation, has in supporting businesses, farms, emergency response, and the overall economy. In Arizona, the general aviation industry contributes an estimated $1.8 billion into the economy every year and supports nearly 10,000 jobs.

With much to celebrate, including the success of a $58 billion aviation industry in Arizona, the Arizona Airports Association (AzAA) and its partners hosted the 8th Annual Aviation Day at the Capitol on Tuesday, January 15, 2013. The event attracted close to four hundred attendees including more than 150 legislators and staff.

ODOT/FAA STUDY TO HELP DETERMINE FUNDING FOR BUCKEYE STATE’S GA AIRPORTS

An unprecedented effort by the Ohio Department of Transportation and the Federal Aviation Administration to help the agencies make decisions about funding for Ohio’s 97 publicly owned general aviation airports brought representatives of the Ohio Airports Focus Study to the Willet Pratt Training Center on the Zane State College Cambridge campus last week.

Lithium-Ion Batteries Emerge as Possible Culprit in Dreamliner Incidents lithium_battery.jpg

A succession of problems has plagued Boeing’s 787 Dreamliner, but investigators are now most concerned about incidents involving overheating of lithium-ion batteries. Battery electrolytes reportedly leaked from a lithium-ion battery onboard an All Nippon Airways flight last week. The liquid reportedly traveled through an electrical room floor to the outside of the aircraft.
