WRP Aviation Committee Meets in ABQ

The Western Regional Partnership’s Military Readiness, Homeland Security, Disaster Preparedness and Aviation IMG_0267edit.1.jpgCommittee met Friday in Albuquerque at the Bureau of Indian Affairs to discuss aviation and airspace issues impacting the 5 state region.

Kim Stevens (shown with Ronald Keller, New Mexico Aviation Division on right), State Aviation Journal publisher and co-chair of the committee said that WRP brings together all aviation users in the region to address emerging issues and to develop solution sets. "We had the opportunity to receive input on the current draft aviation sustainment overview document and to hear briefings on airspace issues in New Mexico. States represented in the region include New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada, Utah and California.

Jack Ferns Receives FAA New England Leadership Award

Jack Ferns was this year’s recipient of the 2012 New England Regional Administrator’s Aviation and Space Education Leadership Award. Ferns was cited for his exemplary service with the New Hampshire Department of Transportation in which he engaged in countless STEM-AVSED activities.

Changes Urged to California Bills that Divert Aviation Taxes

Aviation advocates including the national Aircraft Owners and MikeWScottMedit.jpgPilots Association (AOPA) are urging California legislators to reject changes in two bills that would transfer the excise taxes on aviation fuels from the aeronautics account to the general fund in the next three fiscal years. SB 1005 and AB 1465 were amended on June 14. "Should the state legislators sweep the money from the CalTrans Aeronautics programs, there will be damaging effects felt all over the state," said Scott Malta, manager of Castle Airport in California.

The women gathered inside the Avcraft Inc. building at Columbus Municipal Airport on Wednesday afternoon were friendly. There were conversations about that morning’s flights, personal backgrounds and, of course, the weather, which had grounded the 17 aircraft parked just outside the east doors for the day.

State Aviation Journal to Sponsor State Aviation Newsletter Award
The State Aviation Journal in coordination with the NationalIMG_8945edit.jpg Association of State Aviation Officials (NASAO) will be sponsoring an annual state aviation newsletter award in an effort to recognize the fine work that state aviation offices do throughout the country in creating, writing and distributing newsletters to their customers.
The award, which will be independently judged by a panel of experienced journalists, will be presented each year at the NASAO Annual Conference and Tradeshow. "State aviation employees do an incredible job communicating to their customers through newsletters," said Kim Stevens (shown above), publisher of the State Aviation Journal.
